According to the Jewish media outlet ‘Forward’, U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland grew emotional when he invoked his Jewish family background Wednesday after a Republican lawmaker accused an agency under his direction of religious discrimination.
At a House Judiciary Committee oversight hearing, Representative Jeff Van Drew, a Republican from New Jersey, pressed Garland about a memo released earlier this year by a whistleblower that showed the FBI was considering using churches for information and surveillance purposes, explicitly targeting groups of Catholics known as “radical traditionalists.” The FBI later withdrew and condemned the documents.
Garland, who grew up in the heavily Jewish Chicago suburb of Skokie with a father and a mother whose immigrant parents fled Russia to [allegedly] escape antisemitism and persecution in the early 1900s, responded with indignation. “The idea that someone with my family background would discriminate against any religion is so outrageous, so absurd,” Garland said. However, Judaism is not a race, but a religion. Most Jews are not ethnically Semites–they are Caucasians, equally capable of religious and racial discrimination as anyone else.
Former FBI agent, Kyle Seraphin, feels the agency is looking for a way to declare all Christians as criminals,
“if they’re going to go after radical, traditional Catholics, then radical traditional Baptists are next and radical, traditional evangelicalism and anybody else that espouses essentially what is radical, which is just a Christian faith and that is dangerous apparently in this country,” expressed Seraphin.
What do you think? Should Christians be concerned about an alleged plot to declare them criminals? Is the Jewish-led FBI looking to criminalize Christianity? Is Judaism a superior religion? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
