Eurocentric West Accuses Semitic President of AntiSemitism and Holocaust Denial for remark, ‘European Jews are not Semites’
Atlanta, GA, September 10, 2023 … Presently, European powers decontextualize statements and publicly castigate the leader of Palestine. At a gathering of the Fatah Revolutionary Council last month, Mahmoud Abbas, aged 87, articulated his remarks, which were subsequently broadcasted on Palestinian television. The Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI) later translated and publicized these statements.
“The truth that we should clarify to the world is that European Jews are not Semites. They have nothing to do with Semitism,” says Abbas. In his address, he elaborates upon the assertions within the context of the Holocaust. “Everybody knows that during World War I, Hitler was a sergeant. He said he fought the Jews because they were dealing with usury and money. In his view, they were engaged in sabotage, and this is why he hated them. We just want to make this point clear. This was not about Semitism and antisemitism.”
Hebrew Sho’ah (“Catastrophe”), English Holocaust was the state-sponsored systematic killing of European Jews by Nazi Germany during World War II. Abbas concedes this fact and adds, “It was clearly explained that [the non-Jewish Europeans] fought [the Jews] because of their social role, and not their religion…The [non-Jewish Europeans] fought against these people because of their role in society, which had to do with usury, money, and so on and so forth,” insists Abbas.
The Semitic President further expands the historical framework of his claims: “The story began in 900 CE, in the Khazar Kingdom on the Caspian Sea. It was a Tatar kingdom that converted to Judaism…[In the 11th century], this empire collapsed, and all its population left to the north and to the west. They left for Russia and Western and Eastern Europe. They spread there, and they are the forefathers of Ashkenazi Jews. So when we hear them talk about Semitism and antisemitism – the Ashkenazi Jews, at least, are not Semites.”
Judaism is a monotheistic religious identity developed amongst the ancient Hebrews or Israelites that consists of a “complex phenomenon of a total way of life for the Jewish people, comprising theology, law, and innumerable cultural traditions”. Semite is a racial designation for persons descended from Shem, the eldest son of Noah. Individuals of European ancestry are Whites who can predominantly be classified into three major categories: Christian, Jewish, or Muslim.
Western voices from around Europe and the U.S. cry out against Abbas, accusing him of being an anti-Semitic Holocaust denier and demanding he apologize. “If this report and transcript are accurate, Abbas should be universally condemned and he should make an immediate apology. There is no possible excuse for making antisemitic statements like these and it is by no means Abbas’s first offence,” says prominent US Jewish lobby J Street. Dani Dayan, the chairman of Yad Vashem, the Holocaust museum in Jerusalem closely echoes this sentiment: “The PA Chairman’s statement is not only an example of Holocaust denial and distortion, they use deeply entrenched antisemitic stereotypes. These reprehensible remarks must be unequivocally condemned by global leaders. We can’t stay silent”.
“We condemn your comments with the utmost firmness,” remarks Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo in a letter Friday stripping Abbas of a special honor previously bestowed for his efforts of peace in the Middle East to send him a clear message, “your remarks run counter to universal values”. Hundreds of millions worldwide reject Western values as being universal contending that they embody white supremacist ideology. “The depth, breadth, and durability of American white supremacy and racial prejudice is certainly no revelation to modern historians and social analysts, Black and white,” according to Harvard affiliate Donald Yacovone.
Yacovone identifies white supremacy as ruinous of minority cultures and implicates Europe as the fount of this Western race-based hate: “The real problem to solve, however, has been the persistence of white supremacy and its enduring and destructive cultural assumptions. Freedom and slavery, democratic ideas and white supremacy, existed long before the nation’s founding.” Nabil Abu Rudeineh, spokesman for Abbas said the president’s remarks “were quotes from writings by Jewish and American authors and historians” and not a denial of the Holocaust. “President Mahmoud Abbas’ position on this topic is clear and has been documented, and it is the total condemnation of the Nazi Holocaust and a rejection of antisemitism,” said Rudeineh.
